THE VISION

OSGOOD: A TRUE STORY OF FAITH AND MIRACLES

It began in a small Ohio kitchen, where one ordinary woman heard an extraordinary voice.

While rolling out pie dough, Karen Homan heard God whisper: “Build a restaurant as a ministry.” Terrified and unsure, she tried to ignore it—but the Holy Spirit would not let her go.

What followed was a journey of faith, obedience, and impossible provision.

When Karen told her family, they thought she had lost her mind. Her sons were angry, her husband resisted, and even Karen begged God to choose someone else. But the Holy Spirit can be persistent.

In the face of doubt, miracles began to unfold. A photograph appeared—an old picture of the Osgood State Bank, the very building she’d been told to buy. Three little girls stood on its steps. One of them was Karen, decades earlier. It was the unmistakable sign she had asked for.

From that moment on, miracle after miracle followed. Strangers showed up with checks—$50,000, $200,000, and finally $360,000 written on the spot—each gift arriving exactly when it was needed. The project that “should never have worked” became a thriving ministry called The Do Good Restaurant.

Now, this true story of faith, family, and the power of obedience is being brought to the screen in Osgood. It’s a cinematic journey that will remind audiences that God still calls to people to fulfill His mission and finds them in the most extraordinary places.

SIGNS & MIRACLES

In her journey to establish the Restaurant, Karen Homan encountered numerous signs and miracles that strengthened her faith and determination. These divine interventions served as guiding lights, helping her overcome various obstacles.

One day, while driving her car, Karen felt that God was telling her it was time to purchase the building for the restaurant. Uncertain about why God had chosen her for this path, she did something unexpected: she asked God to confirm that the voice she heard was indeed Him. He responded by saying that she would find her confirmation in a photograph.

The Old Silver Spur, located in the heart of town, was for sale, and God instructed her to buy the building for her restaurant. During a conversation with the sellers, Karen asked if she could have the photos hanging in the restaurant. She wondered if this was all of the pictures they had. The owner replied, “No,” but then the owner’s wife added, “Yes, we have one more. Someone recently dropped off an old photo, and I framed it.”

Curious, Karen asked to see it. She had no idea how important that moment would be. As they approached the newly framed photograph of the old Osgood Bank, Karen’s eyes fell upon three young girls standing in front of the building. A wave of emotion washed over her. In that instant, she realized — with absolute certainty — that she was one of the three children captured in the photograph.
It was the unmistakable sign she had prayed for.

Karen’s eyes fell upon three young
girls standing in front of the building…and one was her.

CLOSE-KNIT COMMUNITY

THE TOWN & KAREN’S DETERMINATION

Population: 306. There are no traffic lights in town. Founded in the 1880s, Osgood was named after Captain Osgood, its first settler. In 1881, Anne Brewer transferred seventy acres of land to Osgood, and the town was incorporated on August 6, 1883. While its earliest settlers were primarily Protestants, a Roman Catholic parish was established in the village in 1906. Today, St. Nicholas Catholic Church stands as a historic landmark, recognized for its architectural significance. Despite its modest size, Osgood boasts a rich history and a close-knit community that contribute to its unique charm.

Karen and her family live and work on an American farm in northwest Ohio. They manage 1,800 acres, growing crops and milking their cows daily. This way of life has been a tradition for as long as they can remember.

STRUGGLE / TENSION

As you observe Karen’s determined efforts to establish the Do Good Restaurant, she encounters skepticism, financial uncertainty, and moments of self-doubt. Her children feel embarrassed by her actions and believe she shouldn’t ask the community for money, fearing it could damage the family’s reputation or jeopardize the farm in pursuit of what they perceive as a misguided idea. Additionally, Karen has dedicated her life to the farm and lacks experience in construction or restaurant management. Despite her health being precarious after 27 heart surgeries, she is motivated by what she believes is God calling her to create a space where people can draw closer to Him.
